Webcomic Beacon #175: The Tropecast #7: Action Girl vs Magical Girl

Adam Smithee, Alex Heberling, Liz Staley, and Eric Kimble (for a while) are here for Action Girl vs Magical Girl tropes! Of course, there is some crossover discussion on giant robots, and a bit about Power Rangers. There is also a huge Disney tangent that Fes came back to (since Adam recorded this show), and subsequently deleted. Who would win in a fight? Magical Girls or Action Girls?

Webcomic Beacon #172: The Tropecast #6: March Mecha Madness

Adam Smithee, Liz Staley, Michael Dellheim, and Fes Works are here for MARCH MECHA MADNESS! That means we’ll be covering tropes revolving around giant robots! This also can include the sentient robots, such as Transformers; pilotable robots or giant robotic suits, like Gundam; questionably sentient pilotable robots, like Big O; or to a more cyborg like robot like Evangellion; and of course robots that form up into even gianter robots, like Voltron. All just to name a few examples. We also touch on the concepts of “real robots vs super robots”. … We also go off on a tangent with Power Rangers as well.

Webcomic Beacon #168: The Bechdel Test aka The Mo Movie Measure

Jules Rivera (Valkyrie Squadron) and Melissa Kaercher (The Geek Life) join Fes, Tanya, and Mark to discuss The Bechdel-Wallace Test, aka The Bechdel Test, aka The Mo Movie Measure. As based on Alison Bechdel’s comic (Dykes to Watch Out For), and her friend Liz Wallace.

[display_podcast]

The test was in direct correlation to movies, but honestly goes for any form of storytelling:

1) There are at least two named female characters, who
2) talk to each other about
3) something other than a man.

But, of course, there’s much more to it than that, which is what we are here to discuss! … as well as going off topic much by the 3rd segment; including talking about sex, but that is what our listeners come to expect!
